What is positive psychology?
Positive psychology is a field of study pioneered by Dr Martin Seligman, who wanted to find out what goes into living what he calls ‘the good life’. He used this knowledge to develop a framework for well-being which we can use to flourish in all aspects of our lives.
How does this differ from traditional psychology?
Traditional psychology is focused on investigating and treating what’s wrong. It’s aimed at helping people who are suffering from poor mental health (e.g. anxiety or depression).
Positive psychology does the opposite. It enables us to identify what’s good about life and what our life looks like when it’s going well. When we know what works, we can do more of it!
Positive psychology creates kids who shine!
Once we know what a good life looks like and have a framework for improving our well-being, we can help the kids in our lives to become positive, confident and resilient.
The best part is, we can work on this together. As we improve our own lives and those of our kids, the whole family benefits and there’s a ripple effect across our community!
